Making your first moves in Ludo

Practice beyond the first move

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Notice the feedback after each input.

What counts as success

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Take a moment to understand the current position.

Making your moves

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

Keyboard and screen controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Check any mode label before starting.

Follow the example

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Check the stated objective.

An important reminder

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention.
